Fabric vs Sewing

“What Will It Be?

Is it the fabric that I really love? Or is it the actual sewing of the garment?

When I think of going into the fabric store and going from roll to roll, from one fabric to the next and just enjoy the flow of each, oh my! I take my time to feel the texture and see the array of colors. Yet I am eager to purchase the bundle of fabric I’ve selected to bring back home.

It can almost be said that it is more enjoyable to discover the fabric than to take it home. I am almost clueless to know what I will actually do with this piece that I loved so adoringly in the Fabric store.

Is it the fabric that I really love? Or is it the actual sewing of the garment?

So, I pack it away to pull out of its storage from time to time just to look at. I still find that I am in love with the flow, the feel and the color. What will it be? What will I make of it? But then that occasion comes, that event I need to go to. I remember that piece that I tucked away. I bring it out along with any supporting items needed to complete that garment. I lay and smooth it out in preparation to cut. Dare I to cut out this piece of art, this piece of work that I so adoringly loved?

I cannot make a mistake. I must do it justice. It always starts with the fabric. It always does.

Changes can be made if I didn’t love how it turned out?

The fabric is good. I am a Creative, this is my canvas. The fabric is my canvas and is my piece of work. My creative endeavor. No longer fabric but now called garment.

So, is it fabric vs sewing?

No, it’s fabric and sewing.
